Hank Williams Jr.
Randall Hank Williams was born May 26, 1949 in Shreveport,Louisiana and reared in Nashville and Alabama. His father was Hank Williams, the most enduring of country music 's superstars. Hank Sr. was responsible for the popularization of country music in the 1940's.Even decades after his untimely death on New Year's Day 1953 his catalog of songs remain very popular. Hank's mother was a country singer also and responsible for his early on-stage performances. At the age of 11 Hank debuted on the Grand Ole Opry and by 14 cut his first record,"Long Gone Lonesome Blues".A rendition of his father's song.Following in his father's footsteps was both a blessing and a curse. Hank Jr. was torn between honoring his father and staking his own claim as a musician. In 1970,inspired by southern rockers like Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers, Hank released the album "Hank Jr.and Friends" Bocephus had found his sound. Hank Williams Sr. began calling his infant son "Bocephus" because he liked the name given to Grand Ole Opry ventriliquist,Ron Brasfield's dummy. Hank Jr. is an accomplished musician in his own right, plays guitar, banjo, fiddle, piano, bass guitar, harmonica, drums and other instruments.Tragedy struck in the 70's .While mountain climbing in Montana Hank Jr. fell 500 feet down Ajax Mountain crushing his skull and face. He survived, started touring again, and began his climb to icon status. In the 80's Hank Jr. dominated the country music industry. He was named Entertainer of the Year three times by the Academy of Country Music and twice by the CMA.In 1989 he was commisssioned by ABC Sports to write and perform the opening segment for Monday Night Football."Are You Ready For Some Football?"That earned him the first Emmy Award(a total of 4) won by a country artist. In 1990 Hank Jr. won a Grammy for "There's a Tear in My Beer" which was an electronically enabled duet with his father,Hank Sr.Currently he has released the CD the "Almeria Club" on which he gets back to his roots.Hank Jr. is also touring around the country.
